Importance of General Health

Dr. Nilay Bhasker Thaker, D.O., is a Maryland health care professional with a background in primary and preventative care. Knowledgeable in family medicine, Dr. Nilay B. Thaker emphasizes the importance of preventative care and regular screening for common conditions.

An annual general checkup screens blood pressure, cholesterol levels, and the functioning of the kidney and liver. Blood work assesses immune system health and potentially finds serious issues that have not manifested as symptoms.

For those over the age of 40, having two or more cardiovascular risk factors is a significant health concern. These include obesity, lack of physical activity, elevated cholesterol, and tobacco use. With stroke and heart disease a serious risk, it makes sense to undergo a heart scan that screens and images vascular health. The focus is on identifying calcium deposits within the arteries, an indicator of underlying heart health issues.
